Golf Instructions for Seniors
Tips for Senior Golfers
Unfortunately as we age our body no longer responds like it use to and this is especially true for those of us that play the game of golf. As we age our shoulder turn becomes less, our flexibility can begin to diminish and our overall strength can weaken. However not all is doom in gloom and in this article we will give golf instructions for seniors that can help you to compensate what aging can do to our bodies.
Senior Flex Club Shafts
The first thing that you should do is have your clubs checked. As we lose strength and flexibility our needs for our club shaft change. For example if you are using a stiff shaft this shaft may be too firm for your swing speed. When you use the improper shaft you will lose distance on all of your clubs and this is especially true for your driver. You may be ready for a senior club shaft and once you have the correct shaft flex you will see your distance return.
Golf Balls for Senior Swing Speed
The next piece of equipment that many golfers overlook is the ball they are using. The ball you are using may no longer be appropriate for your club head speed. You see, the ball you use gets the maximum ball flight when you generate enough club head speed for the proper compression needed for that type of ball. If the ball you are using needs more compression than your club speed generates then you will lose distance. One of the best ways to be able to choose the correct ball is to have your club head speed checked. Each brand of ball tells you on the box if their ball is the right one for you according to your club head speed reading.
Strength and Flexibility for Seniors
Another golf instruction for seniors is to use equipment made to help with strength and flexibility. One example of this can be simply putting a light weight on to your club and make a few swings with it each day. This helps you to keep your strength so you can maintain as much of your club head speed as possible; it also stretches your large and small muscles to helps you during your take away. You can find this type of device in any sporting goods store and many pro shops also carry them.
One other thing you should keep in mind. There are other items that can also help you when you need a little assistance on the course. For example some seniors could start to have trouble getting the ball out of the cup. There are devices for this that you can stick on the end of the putter that has a suction cup fitting on it and you can get the ball out of the cup without having to bend over.
Golf is a game you can enjoy your entire life and just because the body no longer works like it did in your twenties does not mean that you need to give up the game you love. It just means that you need to compensate for it in other areas. Finding equipment that actually works for you’re swing and some strength and flexibility exercises and you can still enjoy the game and remain competitive.
