What Makes a Hawaiian Chicken Recipe?
Everyone loves a good teriyaki recipe, right? Most grilled Hawaiian chicken recipes are variations using teriyaki sauce and pineapple. The trick is to find a sauce that has the right proportions to suit your tastes. For those of us who haven't actually been to Hawaii, as long as it suggests the flavors of the Island, we're happy to live under the illusion that we are preparing tasty island foods the way we imagine them to be. It works that way here, anyway.
Grilled or Baked Hawaiin Chicken Recipe
One of our favorites is the following grilled Hawaiian chicken recipe. While this recipe needs a little advanced planning in order to marinate it long enough, it is easy to make, and it tastes great. Even the kids like it! You can follow the recipe exactly, or you can substitute chicken thighs instead. You'll just need to cook the thighs a bit longer to compensate for them having the bone inside. This recipe can also be baked as easily as grilled. Just pop the chicken in the oven using the time and temperature you'd use for plain baked chicken thighs or breasts. When we bake chicken, bone-in pieces usually take about an hour at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Whether you use the grill or the oven, this recipe is sure to please. Try it out and see if it doesn't add a little excitement to your week with some Hawaiian flair.
Grilled Hawaiian Chicken
6 boneless chicken breasts
2 cups of pineapple juice
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 ounces soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Pineapple rings
Combine the pineapple juice, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and brown sugar and mix well. This is your marinade. Poke some holes into the chicken breasts to help the marinade soak in well. Pour the marinade over the chicken in either a glass baking dish or in a ziplock bag, making sure the meat is covered with sauce. If you use a baking dish, cover it well. Place the meat into the refrigerator. Keep chilled for 24 to 36 hours. The flavors will permeate the chicken, creating a delectable meal when cooked.
Grill the marinated chicken on your choice of charcoal or gas grill. Be sure the chicken is cooked thoroughly but don't over grill it. To top it off, place a few pineapple rings on the grill for a few minutes. Cooking will caramelize the sugars in the pineapple. Serve the chicken topped with the grilled pineapple rings.
