5 Quick Ways to Lower Your Golf Score

Most golfers golf because they love the game not because they think that some day they are going to succeed on a professional tour. However we do want to shoot the best score that we can possible can possibly shoot. This article is going to give you 5 quick ways to lower your golf score, one tip for each aspect of the game. To shoot a lower round of golf you need to look at every aspect of your game and here we are going to look at your drive, approach, short game, putting and your attitude. Small changes can be seen quite quickly on the course by seeing a few less shots per round.

Driving the Golf Ball—Driving is important and getting the most distance that you are capable of getting is extremely important. One of the best ways to further your distance is by making sure that you have an extended follow through. What this does is keeps all of your power moving longer through the stroke and just by keep your extension longer you can put a quick 5 to 15 yards on to your drive. This can make your approach shot one to two clubs smaller coming into the green.

Approach Shots—The approach shot is very important as it does you no good to have a great drive and then miss the green in regulation. There are two quick ways to lower your golf score in your approach shots. First aim small, most people aim at the entire green just hoping they land somewhere on it. This is a bad mental image. Take aim exactly where you want to land and execute the shot. Second, know where to land. Sounds simple but many golfers don't put themselves in the right spot on the green; you need to make sure that you are on the correct tier and hopefully beneath the hole.

Short Game
—If you have made a bad approach shot you can still save the hole if you have a good short game. A quick tip on how to improve your short game is by learning to pitch with a 7 or 8 iron. Most golfer use a pitching wedge or a sand wedge, limiting the options you have around the green. These irons will get you up quickly and have top spin on the ball so it can run toward the hole.

Putting—More unnecessary lost strokes are lost on the putting green. Practice putting regularly so that you are comfortable over the ball in actual playing conditions. Three putting is disastrous to your score so learn how to become a very proficient putter. Learn how to properly execute a lag putt and you will see your putting greatly improve.

Attitude—Remember when you are on the golf course that this is in fact a game. Very few golfers ever make it to the professional level so give yourself a break on the golf course when you hit a bad shot. Yes it is aggravating to hit a wayward shot but throwing clubs and berating yourself is not going to help you focus on the next shot. In fact your tension will increase the odds that your next shot won't be hit well. So relax and enjoy the game and implement these 5 quick ways to lower your golf score.
